Race #8 - AirCal 500
The CART Series made their 8th stop of 1982 at the Riverside International Raceway, in Riverside, California, for the AirCal 500.
Rick Mears led the field to the Green Flag and quickly jumped out to an early lead around the three mile road course, using his past experience on road courses, keeping all challengers behind him as two early cautions gave drivers only a few chances to make changes to their cars, but Mears was untouchable, never being passed on track, losing the lead only during pit stops, and would lead 83 of the event's 94 laps, to score his second win of 1982.
