The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 16th stop of 1997 at the Indianapolis Raceway Park, in Brownsburg, Indiana, for the Cummins 200.
Ron Hornaday Jr. led the field to the green flag and would lead for the first 18 laps as a cool night made the track slippery that would lead to 13 cautions as Hornaday Jr. would dominate for the second time out of the last three races, leading for 123 of the event's 200 laps but a slow pit stop allowed for Mike McLaughlin, a visitor from the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division Series, to catch up to Hornaday Jr. and then take the lead with only 68 laps to go and would hold off the field for the remaining laps and would avoid the rest of the wrecks and would score a surprising win.

Race #17 - Stevens Beil / Genuine Parts 200
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 17th stop of 1997 at the Flemington Speedway, in Flemington, New Jersey, for the Stevens Beil / Genuine Parts 200.
Ron Hornaday Jr. led the field to the green flag for the second race in a row but it was Joe Ruttman who would quickly take over and showed off the power in his Roush Racing owned Ford. Ruttman would command the field for the first quarter of the race before points leader Rich Bickle would take over the race lead something Jack Sprague, Bickle's championship rival, didn't need to see as Sprague would suffer a mechanical issue just before halfway and lost some more ground on the championship leader. Bickle would completely dominate the day, leading 137 of the events 200 laps but a string of late cautions would change the course of the race.
With the field trying to make the race on one stops, drivers stretched their fuel and pitted with around fifty laps to go, Bickle would surrender the lead to Joe Ruttman and Mike Wallace for a brief period but he would regain it and with ten laps to go a late caution, due to Rick Crawford's stalled truck, resulted in a one lap shootout. As the field took the green the unthinkable happened, Rich Bickle ran out of gas, along with Stacy Compton and Michael Dokken, allowing Ron Hornaday Jr. to drive into the lead as he would lead one lap, the final lap, and scored a shocking win.
Other Noticeables: Ron Hornaday Jr. won his 3rd race of the year, Hornaday Jr. led 1 time for 1 lap, including the final lap, Hornaday Jr. scored his 6th career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win and his first since Colorado 3 races ago, Pete Brittain(28th) made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut, Rich Bickle, who finished 9th, kept his points lead, leading Jack Sprague by 148 points

Race #19 - Parts America 150
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 19th stop of 1997 at the Watkins Glen International, in Watkins Glen, New York, for the Parts America 150.
Mike Bliss led the field to the green flag as he would lead for the first five laps before being passed by Blaise Alexander as for the second year in a row the Truck Series ran at the tricky road course as drivers found the course to be very hard to handle as the Inner Loop caused drivers to slide off the track while mechanical issues would knock Alexander out of the race as well as three other drivers. Once Alexander was out of the race that allowed Bliss to retake the lead and he would lead for awhile but his truck began to fade late in the event allowing Ron Fellows to take over the lead as he would lead the last half of the race and score his first win in his NASCAR career.

Race #20 - Virginia Is For Lovers 200
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 20th stop of 1997 at the Richmond International Raceway, in Richmond, Virginia, for the Virginia Is For Lovers 200.
Ken Schrader led the field to the green flag as he would lead for the first twenty three laps as for the third year in a row the Richmond race turned out to be one of great racing, drivers gaining points and a surprising winner for the second year in a row. Championship contender Jack Sprague would pass Schrader and dominated the night while points leader Rich Bickle struggled to stay in the Top 10 as eleven cautions would fly during the night race and a late caution would come out with less then twenty to go setting up what would be a ten lap dash to the finish.
Barry Bodine, son of team owner Geoffrey Bodine, came into the race as Geoff Bodine Racing has been looking for a sponsor ever since Tammy Jo Kirk lost her sponsor and was released from her ride. Bodine started second and stayed in the Top 10 all day long and found himself in second when the green came back out and stayed right in Sprague's trail as the lap traffic of Bryan Reffner would give Barry the chance he needed as he drove under Sprague and would hold him off for his first win of his short NASCAR career.
Other Noticeables: Barry Bodine won his 1st race of the year, Bodine led 1 time for 8 laps, including the final 2 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in his 6th start, B.A. Wilson(20th), Jeff Green(22nd) and Jerry Marquis(25th) made their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuts, Rich Bickle, who finished 7th, kept his points lead, leading Jack Sprague by 15 points

Race #21 - Hanes 250
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 21st stop of 1997 at the Martinsville Speedway, in Martinsville, Virginia, for the Hanes 250.
Andy Houston led the field to the green flag but it would be fellow rookie driver Kenny Irwin Jr. who would drive around Houston to lead the first 75 laps as the tricky half-mile track once again proved to be one of the toughest as drivers struggled to get grip and fought hard for every spot as Barry Bodine, the winner of the last race at Richmond, turned out to be the first victim, breaking a Valve only 55 laps into the event. Irwin would dominate much of the event, he would lead the most laps, but later in the race his truck faded some allowing Jimmy Hensley and Ernie Irvan to move up and began to battle. Coming into the race the championship battle as well changed as Jack Sprague suffered mechanical issues and lost over one hundred points with only five races to go.
With less then ten laps to go, two cautions flew and NASCAR officials decided to use the GWC(Green, White, Checkered) rule which allowed Irvan the chance he needed and he would pass Hensley in Turn 3 on the last lap to score the win.
Other Noticeables: Ernie Irvan won his 1st race of the year, Irvan led 2 times for 100 laps, including the final 3 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in his 8th start, Jamie Skinner(22nd) and Philip Morris(31st) made their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuts, Rich Bickle, who finished 5th, kept his points lead, leading Jack Sprague by 106 points

Jimmy Hensley led the field to the green flag on a clear day in southern California but it would be Jay Sauter who would lead the first lap as the tricky road course turned out once again to be pure hell as drivers would slide off the track and into tire walls and a local caution would come out but only one "real" caution would fly early in the race. Once the green came back out, Joe Ruttman quickly raced his way into the lead and his lead began to grow each and every lap. Ruttman would dominate the day leading 51 out of a possible 60 laps and would score his second win on a road course in 1997 and his third win overall(on road courses) in his career.
