Race 4
The IROC Series made their 4th and final stop of 1976 at the Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Al Unser led the field to the green flag but it was his brother Bobby who would lead the first lap as for only the second time in the three year history of the IROC Series, drivers raced on the high banks of the legendary Daytona International Speedway. Bobby's stay up front was short lived before Bobby Allison and Emerson Fittipaldi would take over the top two spots and swapped the lead for much of the race.
Having won the race and championship a year before, Allison used his strategy of staying in the Top 5 all race long and leading when he could as Emerson Fittipaldi would lead half of the laps and would win the battle to win the race. However, it was Allison who would win the war as his 2nd place finish gave him the championship and his name in the history books as the first driver to win two championships, in back-to-back fashion, in the IROC Series.
Other Noticeables: Emerson Fittipaldi scored his 1st win of the year, Fittipaldi led 6 times for 25 laps, including the final 4 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the IROC Series in his 11th start, Bobby Allison, who finished 2nd, is the 1976 IROC Series Champion, beating Emerson Fittipaldi by 10 points
