Race #8 - Colorado Indy 200 Presented by Deloitte & Touche
The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 8th stop of 1999 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, Colorado, for the Colorado Indy 200 Presented by Deloitte & Touche.
Mark Dismore led the field to the green and would jump out to big lead early on around the mile long track, and started lapping drivers by the 30th lap. Dismore would remain the race leader until he made his pit stop at just the wrong time that the first caution had come out for Ronnie Johncox's crash in Turn 3. With Dismore trapped two laps down, Davey Hamilton assumed the lead briefly before he was passed by Buddy Lazier, with Lazier pulling to a three second lead shortly after the final caution, but rookie Robby McGehee had cut that margin down lap by lap, before passing Lazier with fifty laps to go, pulling away over the last quarter of the race to score the first win of his career.
