Race #8 - Colorado Indy 200 Presented by Deloitte & Touche

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 8th stop of 1999 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, Colorado, for the Colorado Indy 200 Presented by Deloitte & Touche.

Mark Dismore led the field to the green and would jump out to big lead early on around the mile long track, and started lapping drivers by the 30th lap. Dismore would remain the race leader until he made his pit stop at just the wrong time that the first caution had come out for Ronnie Johncox's crash in Turn 3. With Dismore trapped two laps down, Davey Hamilton assumed the lead briefly before he was passed by Buddy Lazier, with Lazier pulling to a three second lead shortly after the final caution, but rookie Robby McGehee had cut that margin down lap by lap, before passing Lazier with fifty laps to go, pulling away over the last quarter of the race to score the first win of his career.

Race #9 - Vegas.com 500

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 9th stop of 1999 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Vegas.com 500.

Robbie Buhl led the field to the green and would lead the first lap before he was passed by championship contender Kenny Brack. A caution two laps later would keep the field on Brack's wing, but Brack would pull away to an early lead, before being passed by Jacques Lazier. Lazier would have a race long battle with Sam Schmidt, the two drivers swapping the lead back and forth over the length of the race, but the battle for the lead would come to an end during the final round of pit stops.

Brack's team would deliver their driver a 15 second flat pit stop while Lazier's team gave him a 18 second, and while Lazier would come out of the pits the leader, he would lose the lead not long after to Brack. Thanks to three rapid cautions coming out over the final twenty laps, it set up a three lap shootout, with Brack playing defense and would hold off Robby McGehee and Buzz Calkins to score his second win of 1999.

Race #10 - Mall.com 500

The Pep Boys Indy Racing League made their 10th and final stop of 1999 at the Texas Motor Speedway, in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the Mall.com 500.

Championship contender Greg Ray led the field to the green and would quickly build up a early leading, needing to score maximum points to have a chance at winning the championship, but would be tested early as Davey Hamilton would assume the lead with the two drivers swapping the lead over the first eighty laps before Hamilton pulled away. With only one caution coming out during the event, it meant drivers would have to gamble on fuel with either a two or three stop strategy. Most of the field pitted with less then thirty laps to go expect for Hamilton who was trying to make it on two stops.

Greg Ray's team gave him a splash of fuel and four fresh tires and would quickly get his lap back as he cut into Hamilton's lead each lap, and as Hamilton took the white flag, Ray was right in his tire tracks, making a move on the backstretch and would hold on for the final two turns to score his second win of 1999, however crossing the line in 16th, Kenny Brack scored enough points to be crowned the 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League Champion and the first ever driver to win back-to-back championships in series history.
