Race #7 - Velocity Prairie ThunderIt was a cloudy day in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada as the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series entered Round 7 of the 2009 season at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for the Velocity Prairie Thunder. Jason Hathaway led the field to the Green Flag as for the first time in the three year history, drivers raced at the 0.333 mile short track as it didn't take long for action to pick up as Scott Steckly was spun out on Lap 3. With drivers cooled down some, the battle for the lead and position happened, with Hathaway would lead for the first 44 laps before he was passed by Ron Beauchamp Jr., who would lead for the next 48 laps until he was passed by Andrew Ranger during pits stops. Once in the lead, Ranger would show not only was he a skilled road course driver, he could get it done on the short track, leading 109 of the event's 250 laps, but as the race went on, Dave Whitlock would work his way through the field, and with 49 laps to go, Whitlock would take the lead. A caution a few laps later would set up a battle for the finish, with Whitlock pulling away on the restart while his challengers had to deal with lap traffic, and that was all Whitlock needed, as he built up a six second lead and would easily go on to score his first career win. Other Noticeables: Dave Whitlock scored his 1st win of the season, Whitlock led 1 time for 49 laps, which were the final 49 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in his 32nd start, Nathan Weenk, who finished 7th, made his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series debut, Andrew Ranger, who finished 2nd, kept his points lead, leading Ron Beauchamp Jr. by 36 points 1.39-Dave Whitlock (49 laps led) 2.27-Andrew Ranger (109 laps led) 3.60-Ron Beauchamp Jr. (48 laps led) 4.22-Scott Steckly 5.12-John Gaunt 6.95-Anthony Simone 7.48-Nathan Weenk 8.17-D.J.
