Race #1 of the season was the Skoal Bandit Copper World Classic at the Phoenix International Raceway.
Pole sitter Mike Skinner led the field to the green on a sunny day in Avondale, Arizona.
Skinner led the first lap forever putting his name in history as the man to lead the first lap in the SuperTruck Series. His lead would last all but two laps as Joe Ruttman would pass him on lap 3 as the two would swap the lead a total of 9 times between them throughout the 80 lap race.
The first caution in the series history came out on Lap 19 when John Nemechek's truck stalled on the Backstreach, that resulted in pitstops and gave the lead to Nascar Winston Cup Series regular Terry Labonte as he would lead briefly before being passed by Ruttman.
The final twenty laps saw a great battle between Skinner and Ruttman with Skinner leading on long runs, and Ruttman beating him on short runs when the last caution came out on Lap 68 for Walker Evans who stalled on the first turn after his Valve blew.
That led to a final showdown between Ruttman and Skinner as the two ran side by side for nearly three laps until Ruttman pulled away on the final lap and beat Skinner to the line to make history.
Other Noticeables: Joe Ruttman became the first winner in series history, Mike Skinner led 42 of the 80 laps, therefore winning the 5 bonus points for leading the most laps.
