Race #1 - Chevy Trucks Challenge
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 1st stop of 1998 at the Walt Disney World Speedway, in Orlando, Florida, for the Chevy Trucks Challenge.
Joe Nemechek had the honor of kicking off NASCAR's 50th Anniversary by leading the field to the green flag on a clear day as the truck series began their fourth year in existence but it would be 1997 Series Champion Jack Sprague who would quickly take the lead. With a full field of drivers, a packed crowd was on hand at the track known as "The Mickyard" and they were not disappointed. Rick Carelli would take the lead early and dominated much of the race but with less then fifty laps to go, a rash of cautions would affect who would win.
Joe Ruttman, who won the first ever event at the track a year prior, struggled much of the day despite leading early as his truck got severe damage after being ran into by Rich Bickle. With several cautions coming out late, Ruttman was able to use lap traffic to catch up and take the lead with forty to go and from then on Ruttman had to hold off a fierce challenge from 1997 Champion Jack Sprague and Bryan Reffner to score his second straight win at the track and more importantly, score his series leading ninth win.
Other Noticeables: Joe Ruttman scored his 1st win of the year, Ruttman led 2 times for 52 laps, including the final 42 laps, It was the 9th win of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and his first since 1997 at Phoenix; 2 races ago, Greg Biffle(9th) and Brett Bodine(30th) made their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuts, Joe Ruttman, who finished 1st, is the points leader, leading Jack Sprague by 10 points

Race #2 - Florida Dodge Dealers 400K
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their 2nd stop of 1998 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, in Homestead, Florida, for the Florida Dodge Dealers 400K.
Rick Crawford led a field of thirty eight drivers to the green flag at the newly reconfigured track as the track had been changed since the death of John Nemechek one year prior in this event. Jay Sauter would drive past Crawford to lead the first lap as the sold out crowd in attendance were given a great show as battles for the lead was a regular thing over the first hundred laps. A lack of cautions resulted in a spread out field and that was what the #3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Chevrolet team was hoping for as the power of the truck was able to keep them up front for 130 of the 167 laps and scored a dominating win.
Other Noticeables: Jay Sauter scored his 1st win of the year, Sauter led 7 times for 130 laps, including the final 38 laps, It was the 4th win of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and his first since 1997 at Las Vegas; 2 races ago, Jay Sauter, who finished 1st, is the new points leader, leading Bob Keselowski by 16 points

Race #3 - Chevy Trucks NASCAR 150
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their third stop of 1998 at the Phoenix International Raceway, in Avondale, Arizona, for the Chevy Trucks NASCAR 150.
Ron Hornaday Jr. led the field to the green flag but it would be Andy Houston who would lead the first lap. Unlike previous Phoenix races, this one was a very exciting one for the fans in attendance as no one would truly dominate the day as battles for the lead happened much of the day as well as cautions flying to keep things close. Jack Sprague, the 1997 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion and known as "Mile and a Half Jack" would make his way into the lead late and led much of the event but after the final round of pit stops and a late caution set the field up for a forty lap run for the win.
Jack would get a great jump when the green came back out but within four laps Andy Houston would take the lead back. Driving a Chevrolet owned by Mike Addington, Houston would surprise several people and would go on to score his first ever win.
Other Noticeables: Andy Houston won his 1st race of the year, Houston led 3 times for 48 laps, including the final 25 laps, It was the 1st career of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win in his 7th start, Dominic Dobson(20th), Jay Stewart(21st) and David Starr(28th) made their NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuts, Ron Barfield Jr., who finished 11th, kept his points lead, leading Joe Ruttman by 19 points

Race #5 - NAPACARD 200
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their fifth stop of 1998 at the Evergreen Speedway, in Monroe, Washington, for the NAPACARD 200.
Jack Sprague led the field to the green flag and would quickly began to pull away from the field as for the fourth time in series history drivers raced on the short track at Evergreen but Sprague's stay up front would be short as his rival Ron Hornaday Jr. would take the lead on the eighteenth lap and from that point on, Hornaday uses his past experience on short tracks as he kept all his challengers behind him for nearly all of the race, but there was a driver moving up through the field as well.
After being involved in a earlier wreck, Rick Carelli's crew was able to fix their truck and get Carelli back out as he would work his way up from nearly a lap down and with twenty eight laps to go, Carelli passed Hornaday for the lead. After having not won in nearly three years, Carelli would finally break through and scored a popular win.

Race #6 - Yellow Freight 200
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their sixth stop of 1998 at the I-70 Speedway, in Odessa, Missouri, for the Yellow Freight 200.
Tony Raines would lead the field to the Green Flag and he would quickly began to separate himself from the rest of the drivers as a cool day would lead to drivers keeping their minds focused on the track, giving each other room as only one caution would fly during the entire race. Despite leading up until the round of pit stops, Raines didn't really pull away from his challengers, as his lead would always maintain at two seconds, as Ron Hornaday Jr. would lead during the pit stops, but Raines would quickly take it back two laps later.
Back out in front, Raines set sail, lapping all but five drivers, using lap traffic to slow down a hard charging Jack Sprague, and would lead all but two laps on his way to his first career NASCAR win.
Other Noticeables: Tony Raines won his 1st race of the year, Raines led 2 times for 198 laps, including the final 28 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in his 30th start, Mike Garvey, who finished 12th, made his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut, Jack Sprague, who finished 2nd, became the new points leader, leading Ron Hornaday Jr. and Ron Barfield Jr. by 4 points

Race #7 - Parts America 150
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series made their seventh stop of 1998 at Watkins Glen International, in Watkins Glen, New York, for the Parts America 150.
Joe Ruttman would lead the field to the Green Flag and he would quickly began to separate himself from the rest of the field as for the first time in 1998, drivers raced at a road course which resulted in many cautions and battling for position. Due to all the cautions, many drivers were on different pit strategies, splitting up the running order as Randy MacDonald, Mike Bliss and points leader Jack Sprague all led while moving up the field was Ron Hornaday Jr. Having been involved in a earlier caution Hornaday was able to make a pit stop early, get fresh tires and was able to take the lead with fourteen laps to go.
Thanks to two more cautions coming out, Hornaday was able to keep his championship rival behind him for the remaining laps to score his first win of the 1998 season.
