Race #1 - Icebreaker
The NASCAR Winston Modified Tour Series made their 1st stop of 1985 at the Thompson Speedway, in Thompson, Connecticut, for the Icebreaker.
A packed crowd was on hand at the Thompson Speedway as the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour Series was making history by having their first ever event held at the track. Carl Pasteryak made history by leading the field to the Green and leading the first ever laps in series history but his stay up front and in the race would be short lived as he first would lose the lead to Jamie Tomaino and then a few laps later his engine would blow up, resulting in a last place finish.
Having taken the lead on Lap 4, Jamie Tomaino began to pull away from the field but three cautions and Richie Evans on his tail would lead to an exciting finish. With officials deciding to shorten the race from the original 75 laps to 47, Tomaino was able to hold off the hard charging Richie Evans and write his name in the history books as the first ever winner in NASCAR Winston Modified Tour Series history.
