Race #1 - Bold City 200
The Grand National East Series made their 1st stop of 1972 at the Speedway Park, in Jacksonville, Florida, for the Bold City 200.
With NASCAR'S decision to shorten it's Cup schedule to 30 events for 1972 and cut tracks less then 250 miles, a brand new series was inaugurated; the Grand National East Series. Bob Williams but it would be Jimmy Vaughn who would write his name in the history books as leading the first ever lap in series history. For much of the races the drivers gave the fans in attendance a great showing as battles for the lead happened nearly all race long as James Hylton would lead much of the first one hundred laps but just after the halfway mark a new challenger arrived: the #95 of Charlie Blanton.
Despite being in a early spin with John Sears, Blanton was able to rebound and took the lead and led for much of the final laps but due to lap traffic, Wendell Scott was able to catch up and passed Blanton with one lap to go. With both drivers battling side-by-side for the next lap but in Turn 3 and 4 the slow car of John Sears slowed Scott down and allowing Blanton to pass by and becoming the first ever driver to win in series history.

Race #2 - Hickory 276
The Grand National East Series made their 2nd stop of 1972 at the Hickory Speedway, in Hickory, North Carolina, for the Hickory 276.
After a successful debut at Speedway Park, the NASCAR Grand National East Series made it's second ever stop of the season at the almost half mile at Hickory. Dave Marcis led the field to the green flag and would keep a hold of it until the lone caution of the day, pit stops happened, which allowed for Bobby Allison to take the lead. No one knew it at the time, but as soon as Allison took the lead, the race was over, as he used his past experience on short tracks and was never passed on track, losing the lead only during the last round of pit stops, easily leading 232 of the 276 laps, to score a dominating win.

Race #3 - Greenville 200
The NASCAR Grand National East Series made their 3rd stop of 1972 at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway, in Greenville, South Carolina, for the Greenville 200.
Neil Castles led the field to the green flag and would pull away to a small lead early on, but a rash of early cautions kept Castles's challengers right on his back bumper. Castles would lose the lead to Elmo Langley on Lap 77, and Langley would use his past experience at the track and kept all his challengers behind him for the remaining laps and would hold off Charlie Blanton and LeeRoy Yarbrough for his first win of 1972.

Race #6 - Maryville 200The Grand National East Series made their 6th stop of the 1972 season in Maryville, Tennessee, the site of the Smoky Mountain Raceway for the Maryville 200. Tiny Lund led the field to the Green Flag but it was Elmo Langley who would get a run in Turn 1 and would lead the first fifteen laps around the half mile track as for much of the day the fans in attendance were given a great showing by the drivers with several cautions slowing down the action. Gary Myers would assume the lead early would dominate the first half of the race but just five laps after halfway, Neil Castles, who had spun out earlier in the race, assumed the lead and would pull away over the final 95 laps, but Myers would remain right on his bumper but ran out of time, giving Castles his second win of 1972. Race #7 - Mountaineer 300The NASCAR Grand National East Series made their 7th stop of 1972 at the International Raceway Park, in Ona, West Virginia, for the Mountaineer 300. Bobby Allison led the field to the green flag for the second time in 1972 and would lead for the first 18 laps as the 0.438 mile short track turned out to be a demolition derby, with eleven caution flags flying throughout the 300 laps event. Race #8 - Fun Sun 200The NASCAR Grand National East Series made their 8th stop of 1972 at the Myrtle Beach Speedway, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the Fun Sun 200. Elmo Langley led the field to the green flag and would lead the first fifteen laps around the half mile track in a race that tied for the most entries in a race, 30 cars, the same amount as Greenville-Pickens earlier in the season, a race that Langley had won at.
