Race #20 - Motor City 250The NASCAR Grand National Series made their 20th stop of 1951 in Detroit, Michigan at the Michigan State Fairgrounds for the Motor City 250.
Marshall Teague led the field to the green flag but it would be Tommy Thompson who would lead the first laps around the one mile dirt track as the crowd of 16,352 fans would watch an action packed race as Thompson, Joe Eubanks, Red Byron and Johnny Mantz would all swap the lead during the event while the race would be slowed by six caution flags while other drivers would drop out due to various problems.
Thompson would be the dominate driver, leading 153 of the event's 250 laps, but he would lose the lead late in the race to Eubanks, as both drivers were going for their first career win, and it looked like Eubanks would go to victory lane, but Thompson would catch and pass him with four laps to go and when a caution came out one lap later, it would end the race under the yellow flag, giving Thompson his first career win in just his fifth career start.
