Race #5The NASCAR Grand National Series made their 5th stop of 1951 in Hillsborough, North Carolina at the Occoneechee Speedway. Fonty Flock led a field of 20 cars to the green flag and would quickly begin to build up a lead rather quickly around the 0.900 mile track, using his past experience on the track in other series, knowing just where to keep his car at all times, while others fell behind. Flock's lead would reach almost twenty seconds shortly before the third caution, and while riding around under caution, the clouds began to darken with rain in the area, NASCAR officials announced that the race would be ran for a long as possible. When the green flag waved to signal the cars could go back racing, Flock pulled away easily once again and held a four second lead over Frank Mundy on the 95th lap when the clouds opened up, giving the win to Flock.
