Race #8
It was a clear day in Lancaster, South Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 8th stop of the 1956 season at the Lancaster Speedway.
Gwyn Staley led the field to the green but it would be Jimmy Thompson who would lead the first twelve laps as the half mile track turned out to be a pretty calm affair as the low amount of cautions allowed drivers only one shot at adjusting their cars to try and gain ground. Gene Blair and Don Oldenberg would lead much of the early half of the race, only for both to suffer problems that would knock them from contention that would put Ray Atkinson into the lead for only the second time in his career.
Coming into the event, Ray Atkinson in only four previous starts, had only led one lap in his entire Convertible Series career and had a best finish of 3rd at Champion Speedway. When Don Oldenberg pitted for a flat tire, Atkinson would take the lead and would hold off countless challenges from Joe Weatherly and Frank Mundy to score his first ever NASCAR Convertible Series win.
Other Noticeables: Ray Atkinson scored his 1st win of the year, Atkinson led 1 time for 139 laps, including the final 139 laps, It was the 1st win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series in his 5th start, Dink Widenhouse(7th) and Norman Schihl(22nd) made their NASCAR Convertible Series debuts, Don Oldenberg, who finished 8th, kept his points lead, leading Jimmy Thompson by 169 points

Frank Mundy led the field to the green at the half mile track as Mundy would quickly begin to pull away from the field early. Driving a Dodge owned by Carl Kiekhaefer, Mundy was able to use the power and strength that the Kiekhaefer team had been known for in the NASCAR Grand National Series as he lapped the field easily, scoring Carl Kiekhaefer his first NASCAR Convertible Series win as a owner, becoming the first driver to sweep a race weekend(having won the pole, lead every lap and win), and also scoring the biggest Margin of Victory in the series history.

Race #11
It was a clear day in Raleigh, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 10th stop of the 1956 season at the Raleigh Speedway.
For the second time in six days, Frank Mundy led the field to the Green Flag and just like he had done at Old Bridge Stadium, there was no question who would win as Mundy won the pole by nearly a second over Jimmy Massey and once the race began it was clear the Dodge owned by Carl Kiekhaefer was near perfection, leading every single lap for the second race in a row and scoring the win. In victory lane, owner Carl Kiekhaefer was proud of his driver but was disappointed about one thing: his driver "only" won by two laps compared to the 6 laps a week prior at Old Bridge Stadium.
Other Noticeables: Frank Mundy scored his 2nd win of the year and second in a row, Mundy led 1 time for 100 laps, including all 100 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Old Bridge Stadium; 1 race ago, Possum Jones(11th) and Ralph Liguori(15th) made their NASCAR Convertible Series debuts, Don Oldenberg, who finished 6th, kept his points lead, leading Curtis Turner by 137 points

Race #13
It was a cloudy night in Roanoke, Virginia as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 13th stop of the 1956 season at the Starkey Speedway.
Jimmie Lewallen led the field to the Green Flag in only his second career start, but his stay up front lasted only six laps before he was passed by his car owner Bob Welborn who quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field. With a cool night and temps, the racing surface was just perfect for drivers to use both the high and low lanes to execute passes and put on a great a show in front of the a crowd of 6,500 people in attendance. Bob Welborn would lead until just past halfway as pit stops were made as several drivers would lead during pit stops, but once completed Welborn retook the lead until the lone caution of the day came out, bunching up the field.
When the green came back out something was off in Welborn's car as he began to fade, allowing pole sitter Jimmie Lewallen to reclaim the lead and he appeared on his way to victory in only his second start before the racing gods struck. With less then five to go, Lewallen's car wiggled on the Backstretch before making a sharp turn into the pits, a victim of a flat tire handing the lead back to his car owner Bob Welborn but hot on his bumper was Curtis Turner, who would pass Welborn one lap later and would go on to score his second win of the season.
Other Noticeables: Curtis Turner scored his 2nd win of the year, Turner led 2 times for 3 laps, including the final 2 laps, It was the 2nd win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Daytona Beach; 13 races ago, Don Oldenberg, who finished 18th, kept his points lead, leading Curtis Turner by 93 points

Race #14
It was a clear day in Columbia, South Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 14th stop of the 1956 season at the Columbia Speedway.
Jimmie Lewallen led the field to the Green Flag for the second time in two days, but it would be Don Gray who would lead the first laps. A crowd of 6,000 people were in attendance at the half mile dirt track to witness an action packed race as fresh dirt would allow for great racing condition as seven drivers, a series high record for different leaders, would swap the lead ten times over the two hundred laps and for the second race in a row a late race caution would result in ten lap showdown.
Jimmy Massey, who had nearly a ten second lead before the caution, would quickly be passed by Dave Hirschfield who had yet to score a win in the NASCAR Convertible Series, and appeared on his way to his first victory. Enter three time race winner Bob Welborn: Having pitted during the last caution, Welborn worked his way around lap traffic and just after taking the white flag, passed Hirschfield for the lead, and would go on to score his record leading fourth win of the season.

Race #15
It was a clear night in Kansas City, Kansas as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 15th stop of the 1956 season at the Lakeside Stadium.
Bob Welborn led the field to the Green Flag and would lead the first three laps as a crowd of 3,500 filled the Lakeside Stadium to watch the 17 drivers battle for victory. Welborn would swap the lead four times before the fifteenth lap before the predictable happened; Frank Mundy took the lead. Driving a powerful Dodge owned by Carl Kiekhaefer, Mundy has completely dominated the season, having only five starts, Mundy has won two times, leading 350 laps and a worst place finish of 8th and Lakeside was no different.
Losing the lead only during a round of pit stops, once Mundy was back out front, Mundy again drove to a dominating win, leading all but 21 laps to score his third win of the season.
