It was a clear day in Greenville, South Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 38th stop of the 1956 season at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
Curtis Turner led the field to the green flag as drivers raced for the first time at the Greenville-Pickens Speedway in series history as a packed crowd of 4,000 fans were in attendance. Much like he had done eleven times already in 1956, Turner used his past experience in the convertible series as well as the power of his Pete DePaolo owned Ford, Turner dominated the race lapping the field by two laps by Lap 180 with no problem but after hitting the Turn 2 wall, Jimmie Lewallen would unlapped himself twice and cut the lead down to nearly twenty seconds, but it wasn't enough as Turner was able to hang on for his 12th win of 1956.

It was a clear day in Atlanta, Georgia as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 39th stop of the 1956 season at the Lakewood Speedway.
Points leader Bob Welborn led the field to the green flag as drivers raced for the first time at the Lakewood Speedway in series history as a pack crowd of 19,000 fans were in attendance. Welborn's stay in the lead would last only ten laps before his championship rival Don Oldenberg found his way into the lead early and would battle Allen Adkins all race long as both drivers swapped the lead six times during the first hundred twenty laps but hot on their tail was Joe Weatherly. Weatherly would pass Oldenberg for the lead with thirty three laps to go and was able to hold off Oldenberg for the remaining laps to score his 4th win of the season.

Joe Weatherly led a field of seventeen drivers to the Green Flag in front of a crowd of 2,500 fans but it was his Pete DePaolo teammate Curtis Turner who would get a run on the outside coming out of Turn 2 as Turner would drop down to the inside line and would lead the first lap as Turner showed the power once again that his Ford had as he would completely dominate a race yet again as he would easily led every single lap on his way to his 13th win of 1956.

It was a clear day in Chicago, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 41st stop of the 1956 season at Soldier Field for the Chicagoland 500.
Joe Weatherly led the field to the Green Flag for the second race in a row in front of a crowd of 38,000 fans and unlike at McCormick Field, Weatherly was able to lead the first lap, in fact it took his Pete DePaolo teammate Curtis Turner 45 laps before he took over the top spot. Turner would lead for awhile as would Norman Schihl, points leader Bob Welborn and Bun Emery as it appeared Emery was on his way to victory; enter Curtis Turner. Unlike at McCormick Field where he led every single lap, Turner took waited for the right time, taking the lead with fifty nine laps to go and would hold off team-mate Weatherly for his second win in a row and 14th in 1956.

It was a clear day in LeHi, Arkansas as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 42nd stop of the 1956 season at the Memphis-Arkansas Speedway.
Curtis Turner led the field to the Green Flag for the eleventh time in 1956, but it was his team mate Joe Weatherly who would lead the first lap. The 8,700 fans in attendance at the mile and a half paved track were given a great show as drivers kept calm and respected each other during the event as no cautions would fly during the event. Weatherly would lose the lead on Lap 50 when he made his first pit stop, handing the lead back over to Turner, who like many times before in 1956, once in the lead, Turner was unstoppable, only losing the lead when he himself pitted.
Larry Odo took the lead late, but it took Turner only three laps to work his way around Odo to retake the lead and would drive on uncontested for his third win in a row and 15th in 1956.

It was a cloudy day in Shelby, North Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 43rd stop of the 1956 season at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.
Joe Weatherly led the field to the Green Flag for the sixth time in 1956 as a cloudy and dark skies would make drivers race each lap like it was their last. Weatherly would lead the first thirty laps before his teammate Curtis Turner would take over the top spot. Much like he had done many times previously in races, once in the lead Turner was unstoppable, building up a lead of nearly fifteen seconds when he made contact with Gwyn Staley and spun out on the Frontstretch, allowing his teammate Weatherly to retake the lead.
Weatherly's stay up front lasted only two laps as Turner's crew gave him a fast stop and reclaimed the lead with thirty laps to go. Turner would then built up a three second lead when with fifteen laps to go the skies finally opened up and the race was declared official and Turner was given the win, his 16th of 1956.

Race #44 - Old Dominion 500
It was a clear day in Martinsville, Virginia as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 44th stop of the 1956 season at the Martinsville Speedway for the Old Dominion 500.
Allen Adkins led the field to the Green Flag as for the first time drivers raced at the half mile track in Virginia. Adkins would quickly begin to build up nearly a five second lead before fuel pump problems caused him to run out of fuel on Lap 94, handing the lead over to points leader Bob Welborn. Welborn would lead before Larry Frank took over and would lead until Adkins took the lead back on Lap 179. From that point on, Adkins would dominate, losing it to Frank and Jimmy Massey before taking it back and would lead 332 of the 500 laps, and scored his first career win.

Race #45
It was a clear day in Spartanburg, South Carolina as the NASCAR Convertible Series made their 45th stop of the 1956 season at the Piedmont Interstate Fairgrounds.
Joe Weatherly led the field to the Green Flag in front of a disappointing crowd of only 2,950 people were in attendance. Curtis Turner would pass his team mate and lead the first lap before Weatherly took it back, pulling away to lead the first hundred laps before Turner got back around his teammate before Jimmie Lewallen spoiled the Pete DePaolo party as he would be the only other driver to lead. Weatherly's car faded in the last hundred laps as Turner and Lewallen swapped the lead two times, with Turner coming out on top, taking the lead with twenty four laps to go and would hold him off for his 17th win of 1956.
Other Noticeables: Curtis Turner scored his 17th win of the year, Turner led 4 times for 57 laps, including the final 24 laps, It was the 17th win of his career in the NASCAR Convertible Series and his first since Cleveland; 2 races ago, Bob Welborn, who finished 14th, kept his points lead, leading Don Oldenberg by 305 points
